Definition of Infinitive In Urdu With Examples
An infinitive is a base if verb. Though it is formed out of a verb, it does not work as a verb. It is one of three verbal’s (non-finite verbs) we have in English.

Definition of Full infinitive In English
When “to + IV” works in a sentence as a noun is called the full infinitive.

- It is a good habit to work hard.
- It is a good deed to help needy people.
Full infinitive used as an object
Examples
- I wish to be there.
- She agreed to teach.
- We refused to work.
- He denied singing.
Full infinitive used as a compliment after a noun
Examples
- I have got many persons to meet.
- She has got a lot of letters to write
- He has hard work to do.
Definition of the Split infinitive
When an adverb comes between “to” and the “verb” when it separates “to” and the “verb” from each other is called a split infinitive.
Examples
Split Infinitive
To fast drive in darkness is dangerous.
To honestly work increases a person’s honour.
To easily win this match is not an easy task.
Full Infinitive
To drive fast in darkness is dangerous.
To work honestly increases a person’s honour.
Winning this match easily is not an easy task.
Definition of Negative infinitive
To make a negative infinitive, put “not” before “to”.
Examples
Correct
His decision not to take the exam is not in his favour.
Run fast not to lose the race.
Incorrect
His decision to not take the exam is not in his favor.
Run fast to not lose the race.
Definition of Plain infinitive
The first form of the verb without “s”, “es”, and “Ing” is called bare/plain infinitive.
A plain infinitive is used after the causative verb “make”.

- I am making him clean my room.
- میں اس سے اپنا کمرہ صاف کروارہاہوں۔
- I am making my room clean.
- اپنا کمرہ صاف کروا رہاہوں۔
- I can speak English.
- میں انگریزی بول سکتا ہوں۔
Definition of Simple passive infinitive
“To be +IIV” is called simple passive.
Note: Passive infinitive “gives the passive meaning of “ The future indefinite tense.

Definition of Perfect infinitive
“ To have +IIIV” is called the perfect infinitive.
Note: “ Perfect infinitive” gives different meanings on different occasions.

They are happy that they won the match.

Definition of Perfect progressive infinitive
The perfect progressive infinitive expresses the idea with stress that an action has been in progress often before another action.
