Past Indefinite Tense in Urdu & English (Free PDF)
When we talk about the Past Indefinite Tense, it means actions that have already happened or are done. In Urdu, this works the same way as in English. For example, when we say “He played soccer yesterday” in English, it means the action happened at a specific time in the past. In Urdu, you would say “کل اس نے فٹ بال کھیلا”. Both use time markers like yesterday to show the event happened before.
Why are Tenses Important?
Tenses help us talk about actions in different times. The Present tense is used for things happening now, like “I am playing soccer.” The Future tense is used for things that will happen, like “I will play soccer tomorrow.” Using the correct tense helps us speak clearly and avoid confusion.

Lets take an overview of this tense…
- The second Form of Verb is used in the Past Indefinite Tense
- The helping Verb is “Did” but it is not used in the Positive Sentence
Noted Point: Always use the First Form of the Verb with Did
Positive Sentences: She helped me with difficulty
Negative Sentences: She did not help me with the difficulty
Interrogative Sentences: Did she help me with difficulty?
Negative + Interrogative Sentences: Did she not help me with difficulty?

Formula: Subject + did not + 1st form verb + Object

| Bilal did not learn her lesson. | بلال نے اپنا سبق یاد نہیں کیا۔ |
| I did not received money | میں نے پیسے وصول نہیں کیے۔ |
| The teacher did not beat the students | استاد نے بچوں کو نہیں مارا۔ |

Formula: Did + Subject + 1st form verb + Object ?
